Walla Walla High School Ag Department Shines at WAAE Summer Conference

The Walla Walla High School Agricultural Education program made a major splash at this year’s Washington Association of Agricultural Educators (WAAE) Summer Conference in Omak, bringing home an impressive total of six plaques and widespread recognition from colleagues across the state.

It was a week filled with professional growth, inspiration, and celebration as our dedicated educators were honored for their outstanding contributions to Career and Technical Education (CTE).

Here is a list of the incredible haul of awards brought back to Walla Walla:

  • District VI Rookie of the Year: Kirsten Gilbert

  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Peggy Payne

  • District VI Teacher of the Year & Mentor Teacher Award: Jessica Johnson

  • District VI Program of the Year

  • WAAE Outstanding Program

In addition to the awards, the association presented Peggy Payne with a special retirement gift, honoring her years of incredible dedication to agricultural education. Hearing the many compliments and praises from peers across the state was a wonderful testament to the strength, hard work, and success of our local program this past year.

Walla Walla High School’s CTE Department Chair, Jessica Johnson, said, "We came home with some new ideas to bring back to our classrooms. We are excited to implement what we learned to keep pushing our program forward."

Congratulations to our phenomenal educators for representing Walla Walla so well on the state stage! Your hard work continues to pave the way for the future of CTE.
