WaHi Students Earn Prestigious W!SE Financial Literacy Certification

Published in Week in Review - June 4, 2026

Walla Walla High School students Luke Higgins, Charlie Capps. Emma Cruz and Parker Maine have earned the nationally recognized W!SE Financial Literacy Certification, demonstrating a strong understanding of essential personal finance concepts and readiness for real-world financial decision-making.

At WaHi, the W!SE Financial Literacy Certification Exam serves a dual purpose. Students take the assessment as a pretest at the beginning of the semester and again as the final exam for the Personal Finance course. This approach allows both students and teachers to measure growth in financial knowledge throughout the semester.

To earn certification, students must pass a rigorous exam that evaluates their understanding of key personal finance topics, including budgeting, banking, credit, investing, insurance, taxes, consumer protection, and financial decision-making.

This year, 10 students took the certification exam, with four achieving passing scores and earning the W!SE Financial Literacy Certification. While the exam is challenging, successful completion reflects a high level of financial literacy and a commitment to developing skills that will serve students throughout their lives.

The knowledge gained through the W!SE program helps students make informed financial decisions as they transition into adulthood. Participants learn practical skills such as managing money, creating budgets, using credit responsibly, avoiding scams and fraud, saving for future goals, and understanding financial products including loans, insurance, and investments. These skills help lay the foundation for financial independence, reduce financial stress, and support sound financial decision-making in the years ahead.

Walla Walla High School Financial Literacy teacher Greg Lupfer teaches the Personal Finance course and prepares students for the certification exam, helping them build the knowledge and confidence needed to navigate their financial futures successfully.
